What is a Biometric Screening?

What is it?

Most onsite biometric screenings are generally all the same. The industry standard is a finger prick, which is less invasive than a blood draw. Fingerstick screenings require just a few drops of blood, and results are available immediately. They include biometrics (height, weight, waist, and blood pressure), and the popular Lipid + Glucose panel which screens for total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, calculated LDL, cholesterol/HDL ratio, and glucose.

We use an FDA-cleared and CLIA-waived analyzer that meets National Cholesterol Educational Program (NCEP) guidelines for accuracy and precision. The entire screening process, including Fingerstick, biometrics, and review of results takes just 10 minutes. If results are abnormal, the examiner will alert the participant, and advise them to follow up with their personal physician.

After their specimen and biometric measurements are collected, the medical technician goes through each result, indicating whether it falls inside or outside of recommended reference ranges. The examiner performing the screening is HIPAA-trained to share screening results with the participant in a confidential way. The review and immediacy of results can lead participants to a greater understanding of their own health risks, as well as more urgency to improve their results.

Who conducts it?
